Architecture is a study program at university level. In the program, emphasis is on students assimilating the ideology of design and creative arts. This includes strengthening skills and knowledge in drawing and designing buildings and the process that extends from idea to reality. Among topics covered are space design, cultural studies, architecture, model building and architectural drawing.


The program ends with a BA degree. The duration of study is three years.

Study

Architectural studies have been taught within the design and architecture department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Requirements

Admission requirements are a matriculation examination from a secondary school or a comparable study program.
Applicants must have received education or experience in arts or design and be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge by submitting a portfolio of works along with an application. See more about the admission process.

The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna).

Curriculum

Architectural studies are both theoretical and practical. Compulsory and elective subjects alternate throughout the three years. Teaching is on-site.

After graduation

Upon completion of the study program, it is possible to go on to graduate school. To obtain a professional qualification as an architect, you need an MA degree in architecture, which is taught abroad.
