The University of Akureyri offers a BA study program in media studies as well as a master’s study program in media and communication studies. A media studies program is available at the University of Iceland as a 60-credit secondary subject, but there is also a master’s program in media and communication studies.
Admission requirements are a matriculation examination or a comparable degree.
The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade union education funds often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.
The media studies program is both theoretical and practical, where students are trained to write and communicate content for newspapers, radio, television and social media. A part of the study program has been available as distance learning.
The study program provides a good foundation for working in radio, television, online advertising or newspaper writing. Many types of postgraduate studies are also possible, e.g., in media and communication studies, marketing studies, political studies or gender studies.
