Personal trainers guide people through a variety of physical exercises. The job involves teaching and demonstrating the right technique during training, monitoring and explaining how to work out efficiently. Personal trainers also advise and provide information on a proper diet and weight management.

As a personal trainer, you could work at a gym and/or online distance training.

Main tasks

– assessing the abilities, needs and physical condition of individuals
– creating personalized exercise plans
– guide people to get the most out of their workouts
– teaching proper breathing during exercise
– monitoring progress and adapting the exercise plan accordingly
– ensuring the safety of participants during exercises

Competence requirements

Personal trainers need to have good interpersonal skills and be able to listen to clients’ wishes. Organizational skills are also a very favorable trait. An interest in a healthy lifestyle is essential, as well as a willingness to guide others. Personal trainers need to be in good physical condition, as the job can test both endurance and strength.

Study

Many personal trainers are trained sports scientists or have completed other studies and/or have experience in that field. The Keilir Sports Academy has also offered a special study program in personal training.
