Bartenders take orders and prepare drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The job may involve recommending drinks for certain circumstances or occasions. In some places, there is a division of labour between bartenders who mix drinks and staff who take orders and serve customers, but often bartenders do both. A bartender must follow the rules on serving alcohol, for example during opening hours, and not serving people who are conspicuously badly drunk.
Bartenders work widely; in pubs, restaurants, hotels and other places where drinks are served.
