It is preferable that the applicant has completed a 12-week trial period in general forestry or horticulture in addition to a part of an apprenticeship before the theoretical studies begin. Applicants must also have completed two to four semesters of secondary school, including certain credits in a certain number of subjects. Job experience may be assessed as part of the studies, which is examined on a case-by-case basis.
