Preschool assistance is a work-related study program at the secondary school level. The program entails increasing knowledge of the development process of children together with skills in methods and theories used in the care, upbringing and education of preschool children. Validation of prior learning has taken place in the discipline, when skills acquired in the labour market are assessed. Get more information from centers for education and lifelong learning.

The average study period is two to three years, including vocational training.

Study

A study program in preschool assistance has been taught at Borgarholtsskóli and Verkmenntaskóli Austurlands. Fjarmenntaskólinn also offers distance learning, in addition to which a so-called preschool assistance gateway has been available at these schools and at centers for education and lifelong learning.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed compulsory education in accordance with the National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory Schools. However, there may be exceptions at individual schools.

There is a program at the preschool assistance gateway, intended to make it easier for unskilled people with work experience to gain professional qualifications. The prerequisites are that the applicant is at least 22 years of age, has at least three years of work experience and has completed work-related courses.

Curriculum

The program is divided into general theoretical studies, specialized preschool assistance study path courses and workplace learning.

The preschool assistance gateway is intended to shorten the preschool assistance studies, and to this end, only specialized courses are covered.

After graduation

Upon graduation, you can take a job as a preschool assistant.
