Sound technology is a work-related study program at the secondary school level. The course includes increasing knowledge and skills in different kinds of sound recording and sound processing. It also involves familiarizing students with electrical engineering, music theory, and the main instruments, machines and equipment used. The duration of study is one year.


It is possible to have skills acquired in the labour market evaluated.

Study

Sound technology is taught in collaboration between Stúdíó Sýrland and Tækniskólinn.

Requirements

The applicant must have completed compulsory school and two years of secondary education, including a certain number of credits in certain subjects. It is also desirable that applicants have experience in playing musical instruments or education in that field. Enrollment takes place once a year, during the autumn months. The study program usually starts in January.

The program has been credit-worthy at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade unions often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

The sound technology program consists of specialties where electrical and electronic technology is taught at the Technical College and other subjects are taught in Stúdíó Sýrland. Teaching is in the spring semester, summer semester and autumn semester with a two-week break between semesters.

After graduation

After graduation, students can work on sound processing and sound recording.
