Literature is a study program at university level. The study focuses on the development of literature in the West, where students are trained in the application of theoretical methods and concepts.

Study

Literary studies have been taught within the Faculty of Icelandic and Cultural Studies at the University of Iceland. There are also two study programs available for a master’s degree: comparative literature and Icelandic literature.

Requirements

Admission requirements are a matriculation examination or a comparable study program.

The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade union education funds often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

 
Curriculum

The core of the study program consists of nine compulsory courses, but other courses are optional and the selection is diverse, such as in connection with individual nations, specific literary disciplines, currents, research fields or individual writers.

After graduation

Education in literary studies can be used in various fields, such as in the media, publishing, advertising, public relations, cultural activities or teaching.
